Designer Robert Marinelli artfully blends aesthetic inspiration ranging from modernist and eclectic, to transitional while respecting classic period references. His designs are not formulaic or trendy but rather a sophisticated mix of styles, luxurious materials, finishes, textures, and colors. Cast bronze and glass are discriminatingly paired with refined lacquers and veneers. Quality, comfort, proportion and attention to detail are hallmarks of his work.
As a Furniture Designer, his pieces are as distinctive as they are timeless and will harmoniously transition into both contemporary and traditional spaces. Marinelli studied Art History and Business in Boston, London and Paris and later moved to Tokyo where he collaborated with prominent Development Corporations on specialized design projects in Europe and Asia.
He was exposed to exceptional workshops and craftsmen who made remarkable custom furnishings for these projects. These very special sources inspired him to assemble an extensive line of graceful, bespoke furniture that reflects his personal interest in updated classics and elegant forms.
After living abroad, Marinelli returned to New York and launched his first collection of furniture for World Design Inc. 1995 which was represented at the Washington and Boston Design Centers and at Nina Campbell in London. In 1999 & 2000 he won the award for Best Overall Presentation at the International Decorex Show in Chicago and London.
From 2000 to 2005 Marinelli owned and operated his own multi-line, namesake store on 14th Street in the Meatpacking District. One of the first visionaries to open his doors in the then undiscovered neighborhood, he showcased his own classic modern furniture alongside a broad range of textiles, lighting, accessories and art. This minimalist, gallery like setting quickly became a downtown fixture, helping to make the area the premier shopping destination that it has now become.
His designs and home furnishings have been featured in numerous publications including Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Interior Design, Esquire, Marie Claire, Gourmet, HGTV, Better Homes & Gardens, Forbes, Martha Stewart Living, Hamptons Cottages and Gardens and Wallpaper. He has also participated in and donated his designs and services to charitable causes such as Diffa (Dining by Design) Cancer Research Institute, Abigail Adams and Alpha Workshops.
Marinelli provides a complete range of custom capabilities for his clientele and encourages them to work with his team to create truly unique pieces for their home. With offices in both New York and Los Angeles he is very involved in his design projects and the development of his product lines and enjoys a collaborative approach to the design process.
